Kinder Surprise review

Well, Easter may be over but we've got one more bonus Easter review for you today. We're actually going to have a look at the one and only Kinder Surprise.

and part 2 showing the toy!

Walking the Candy Aisle rates Kinder Surprise - 4 / 5

Now I should make it clear, I am really no huge Kinder expert, but I like the egg, and this review was really based for the most part on the chocolate, and the presentation / packaging etc; but NOT on the specific toy included. The fact that they are pretty much uniformly cool toys is a bonus though.

Kinder as I said, is a Ferrero product, but you can find more about them at their online presence - . And for more reviews please head on over to our Reviews Page, or feel freel to just browse the Easter Candy Playlist on YouTube. Expect an Easter wrap up post later this week. until then, don;t forget to check the aisle for some remainders :)

A BIG Easter

You can tell its going to be a BIG Easter when you start seeing some of these chocolates in the candy aisle. I have to say though, when I was a kid there is literally no way my parents would have gotten me this much chocolate for Easter! Seriously, doesn't this seem a bit overboard?!

Spongebob SquarePants, known for his piercing blue eyes (...cough)

For the record, I'd probably most want the Ninja Turtles one, or maybe the Madagascar 3 one. Those penguins are crazy funny! Anyhow also interesting to note the actual biggest ones are the Pony, and the two hockey player bunnies. at 310g, and 300gs respectively. That's pretty darn big!

Ok folks, so that's all I've got today, come on back tomorrow though for one final, and very special, Easter review. There has been some really great chocolates this year and I'm glad to get a chance to share it all with you.

Lil Scoops!

Have you seen this???!?!

WTF!? Cadbury Lil Scoops Chocolatey Mousse?! YES Please.

Seriously, what an amazing idea. I love it and will get it.

Why the hell hasn't there been mousse in the candy aisle? I mean I get that it might be hard to keep and / or require refrigeration, but damn. this is an idea that I am so glad to see come true.

I'll have a review for you on this as soon as humanly possible. Yay Easter!

Easter's Revenge

Well here we are once again. It was just over a year ago that I started Walking the Candy Aisle and I again find myself faced with an aisle full of Easter Eggs. Valentines hasn't even happened yet and already Easter is taking over!

There are definitely some things to be happy about with Easters return. Cream eggs for one! I love me some good ol' cream eggs, and I'm interested to see what's different now that I'm living in Canada rather than the States for the holiday.

Already I'm seeing a few differences even in the standard Cadbury fare.

Look at this selection and you'll see some interesting things.

Mini Creme Eggs! yes, those are not Mini Eggs, but actual creme eggs only shrunk down!!! I can't wait to get my hands on those!

Cadbury Caramilk Egg... does this mean I won't get my beloved Caramel Creme Egg?! How similar is this to that??? Very interesting.

These come in mini size as well.

And check this out, a variety pack of mini eggs, featuring straight up Cadbury Dairy Milk Eggs. Very interesting... Do you suppose its solid milk chocolate?

Nestle Canada also has an interesting selection with yet another redesigned Aero bar. This time its an egg. Not to be outdone they also have a Rolo egg. Yes thats right a ROLO egg!

What actually has me most intrigued though is this adorable little mint mutton chop.

Why aren't there more lambs at Easter? seems like a good fit for the holiday.

While Kinder has always come in eggs, here are some actual honest to goodness chocolate filled ones from the company. I have to say I haven't explored much of Kinder's line outside the toy filled egg, but I'm interested to take a dip soon.

I believe Kinder has had these malted (?) mini eggs for a few years now, but I just noticed the cute little bunny mascot for the first time.

And finally Lindt. Aside from the full sized Lindor eggs that I mentioned a few weeks ago, they've also got these cute little Lindor mini eggs... Doesn't it seem like everyone is on the egg bandwagon these days?

I'll have some Easter reviews coming up for you in the weeks ahead, and yes I will have at least one Valentine's review for those lovesick readers out there. Stay tuned all. The Holidays just keep on coming and so does the candy and chocolate! And for those of you who can't wait, check out all of last years Easter themed video reviews right here!

Love is in the Aisle

Its only a few scant days away from Valentines and there are some delicious goodies in the candy aisle.

Personally I'm not so much of a fan of simple changes to packaging, I really like it when candy and chocolate companies go out of their way to make something unique for the holidays.

Mixed in with the Valentines stuff there were a few early Easter items. Specifically Check out these egg shaped Lindors! Nice packaging on that :)

Also this 3 pack of Creme Eggs, has a To / From spot on the packaging. Since we don't usually give presents for Easter, or at least not that much... Do you think they are trying to get people to give Creme Eggs for Valentines?

I wish they would do a Valentines CReme Egg. Maybe strawberry flavored... it would be pretty good :D Anyhow, I'll have one or two Valentines reviews for you over the next week or so, just keep it locked right here.

Fun Dip - video review

Today we've got another awesome review. Enjoy this look at Fun Dip.

Very nice. If you want more please check out the written review, or all of our reviews over on the reviews page.

Fun Dip review

Another review for you today, and this is a bit of an odd one. Not that the candy is odd, but thematically this is actually an Easter edition candy. Someone gave it to me and I'd guess that its been sitting around for a while... Thankfully I'm pretty positive that this kind of candy has a very long shelf life, so lets just put all the bunnies and springtime stuff in its place, and have a good look at the one and only Fun Dip!

Now for those of you new to the blog you might be wondering why I'm reviewing multiple flavors of Fun Dip at once. Well I'm not looking to upset those Fun Dip enthusiasts out there, but I kind of think there are a few candies that only warrant a single review. This will be a review featuring specific points on multiple variations of the candy, but will I hope cover the generalities that can be applied to all Fun Dip. (basically don't take it too seriously... its just candy).

Today I've got two different versions of Fun Dip to look at: Strawberrylicious Dip, and Wonderous Watermelon Dip. As I mentioned above these are both Easter editions of Fun Dip, so I'm not 100% sure if these flavors are available year round. These are labelled as Springtime dips, and the packaging certainly shows that. I'm a big fan of the Wonka imprints design work. They always do a great job showing the fun of candy. And really this is flavored powdered sugar in a bag that you eat with a candy stick. If you're not having fun, you're doing something wrong.

The colors on both packages are great and very "springy". I love the little touches too like the bubbling dip powder on the bottom of the F and P in Fun Dip. The blossoming flowers are a very nice springtime touch too. More awesomely on the back of the packages is a wonderful little note from Willy Wonka himself to all the kids out there. This could come off as cheesy, but I think its actually very sweet. And encouraging kids to check out the Wonka books is a great idea.

So for those of you out there still scratching your head. Fun Dip is essentially flavored sugar. If you know what a pixie stick is, then you know what Fun Dip is, although the main different here is delivery. This comes in a pouch and is accompanied by a hard candy stick called a Lik-a-Stix. In fact the entire product was originally called Lik-m-aid, but was re-branded Fun Dip to beter fit the Wonka brand. The stick gets licked and then when dipped into the powdered flavored sugar, it will stick to the surface, letting the kids essentially spoon the sugar down :) Its pretty fun!

Breaking into the package you'll see the powder down at the bottom of the pouch. It smells good, and very sugary, which makes sense since that's essentially what this is. the stick as you can see below, is simple and white. Usually it says Lik-a-stix on it but in this case they've actually branded one side of the stick for Easter as well with the words "Happy Easter", which is a nice touch. Licking then dipping the stick will give you whats going to become your basic mouthful of Fun Dip.

The taste is pretty much exactly like you'd imagine. This is sugar, fine ground with sweet flavoring mixed in. The flavors are both great, Strawberry and Watermelon are both good candidates for this kind of candy. There's not much to say about it other than that. Its good, and not as overly sweet as it could be, but you can feel that this is definitely a mainline of sugar.

I've heard tell that the stick is actually marshmallow flavored, but if it is I can't really place it. Its mild thats for sure. As you eat you'll eventually either on purpose of by accident break the Lik-a-stix. That's ok though, that's what its for.  This candy is equal parts for eating, and for playing. The stick has a chalky mint like quality. Not mint in flavor, but in texture and consistancy. Its fine, but nothing too exciting. The joy comes in licking off the sugar powder. It comes in seeing the sugar work into the Lik-a-stix lettering, and wondering how long you can go before the stick breaks.

Let's take a step back from this for a second. because in terms of taste its pretty decent, but nothing too unexpected. The thing that makes this a great candy is the form, the delivery, the sheer playfulness of it all. I am a fan of Fun Dip because of all that and more. This candy will definitely appeal to kids, but I think it speaks to all of us. This is a real reminder that candy can, and should be fun. I love the messaging hardwired into this entire product. Fun Dip is honestly a lot of fun, and I give it special props for keeping it real. Go get some and have fun!

Walking the Candy Aisle rates Fun Dip - 4 / 5

As I mentioned Fun Dip is a Wonka product, which is in turn a brand of Nestlé. Please find out more about all of it at this link.
