Easter's Revenge

Well here we are once again. It was just over a year ago that I started Walking the Candy Aisle and I again find myself faced with an aisle full of Easter Eggs. Valentines hasn't even happened yet and already Easter is taking over!

There are definitely some things to be happy about with Easters return. Cream eggs for one! I love me some good ol' cream eggs, and I'm interested to see what's different now that I'm living in Canada rather than the States for the holiday.

Already I'm seeing a few differences even in the standard Cadbury fare.

Look at this selection and you'll see some interesting things.

Mini Creme Eggs! yes, those are not Mini Eggs, but actual creme eggs only shrunk down!!! I can't wait to get my hands on those!

Cadbury Caramilk Egg... does this mean I won't get my beloved Caramel Creme Egg?! How similar is this to that??? Very interesting.

These come in mini size as well.

And check this out, a variety pack of mini eggs, featuring straight up Cadbury Dairy Milk Eggs. Very interesting... Do you suppose its solid milk chocolate?

Nestle Canada also has an interesting selection with yet another redesigned Aero bar. This time its an egg. Not to be outdone they also have a Rolo egg. Yes thats right a ROLO egg!

What actually has me most intrigued though is this adorable little mint mutton chop.

Why aren't there more lambs at Easter? seems like a good fit for the holiday.

While Kinder has always come in eggs, here are some actual honest to goodness chocolate filled ones from the company. I have to say I haven't explored much of Kinder's line outside the toy filled egg, but I'm interested to take a dip soon.

I believe Kinder has had these malted (?) mini eggs for a few years now, but I just noticed the cute little bunny mascot for the first time.

And finally Lindt. Aside from the full sized Lindor eggs that I mentioned a few weeks ago, they've also got these cute little Lindor mini eggs... Doesn't it seem like everyone is on the egg bandwagon these days?

I'll have some Easter reviews coming up for you in the weeks ahead, and yes I will have at least one Valentine's review for those lovesick readers out there. Stay tuned all. The Holidays just keep on coming and so does the candy and chocolate! And for those of you who can't wait, check out all of last years Easter themed video reviews right here!

It's Begining to Look A Lot...

Like Christmas Candy time!!!

I was of course wandering down the aisle this week, and my goodness the Christmas stuff is out already!

There's some good stuff out already, but I expect more to be hitting the shelves around town soon. I picked up a few select goodies for review here, and you can expect some great stuff coming down the pipe for the holidays here at Walking the Candy Aisle. Starting most significantly with double reviews from now until Christmas. One regular and one Holiday themed (at least through November). Then I may switch over full time to Xmas candy.

A few specific Holiday treats jumped out at me that I thought I'd share.

Nice Kinder packaging here.  I'm thinking about kicking off the new year doing some stuff on Kinder here on the blog. Maybe now's the time to dig in.

I've been seeing these 3-Dees all over the place lately, but they just seem so dumb that I've been trying to avoid them. I mean fruit gummies come and go every day... are these so different? Anyhow, these certainly got the licenses.

Now here's a gift box I'd like to receive!

You knew it had to happen right. I mean the Angry Birds are EVERYWHERE!

I get that Mini Eggs are everywhere now, but why exactly are they Christmas themed??? What animal lays its eggs in the middle of winter?! That seems totally reckless for both chickens and rabbits.

Hooray for alcohol chocolates! Both Lindt and Baileys themselves have gotten into the game. Awesome. I can't wait to try (and review) these for the blog!

Something that could surely only be made and sold in Canada, the Reese Half Pound Peanut Butter Cup!!! Holy Moly that's a big peanut butter cup!

Zami launching into competition with Kinder comes out swinging with these holiday themed Winne the Pooh ornaments inside milk chocolate eggs! Is this a good idea or a terrible one?

And holiday themed Kit Kats. These are essentially just Kit Kat minis (the same size as the 2 stick ones) but they've got a picture of jolly old Saint Nick on them. I picked one of these up immediately.

Very cute. I like the smile, and the mittens.

Weird thing to break a kit kat across the middle... but that's how this was designed. Still tastes just as good though :)

I'm looking forward to a great Christmas here on the Candy Aisle blog. I hope you'll stick with me and enjoy the festive season!

Mini Eggs all year!

With yet another win in the  string of victories for Canadian candy I now come to find out that Cadbury mini eggs are available here all year round! Am I crazy? These things are only available at Easter in the States right? I know they tried the full on Cream Eggs all year and it flopped so they went back to them being limited time, but I thought the same was true of the Mini Eggs. Am I right?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out my review from last Easter right here.

Cadbury Mini Eggs - video review

With Easter coming soon I couldn't help but put up a review for Cadbury Mini Eggs. Enjoy.

I did a little messing about with the video after shooting to try to get rid of the shaky camera, but ultimately decided to post it as is. I know these videos can be a bit shaky. I'm working on a plan for a set up where the camera will be mounted, but I've got to get some new equipment first. Thanks for the patience and understanding.

Keep your eyes peeled here for a number of bonus reviews in the coming weeks. Please click here for more in the written review or check out all the reviews on the Reviews Page.

Cabury Mini Eggs review

Can you feel it yet? It's coming... Easter is in the air, and today I've got a review for the egg and bunny lover in all of us, it's time to look at Cadbury Mini Eggs!

When it comes to tiny chocolate eggs, these have been a staple of the Easter season for years. I know Cadbury has a sorted history in the States, but I grew up in Canada and had much more access to these as a child. They were always some of my favorites, so the question now is of course, do they hold up?

First just a note on the packaging. I love it! This is such a festive Easter scene, with decorated eggs piled high in a grassy meadow. Spring flowers abound with tulips about to open, you can tell the Easter bunny has just dashed away from his stack of eggs for a few minutes as he prepares to go hopping around the world hiding eggs. And even though the purple backdrop is a standard Cadbury color, here it makes me feel like I'm looking in on the delicious chocolate egg pile under an evening sky... ok, maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I really like the graphics here.

The packaging says to expect "solid milk chocolate with a crisp sugar shell" and even boasts a picture of an egg opened up. Not something you'll see on every chocolate, that's for sure. One final note on the packaging though. On the back it says "Mfd. by The Hershey Company, under license from Cadbury UK ltd.". umm... what? Has this always been the case?! Are these the same chocolate eggs I would've had as a child in the wilds of Canada, or am I being duped into buying new-fangled American chocolate eggs? Will I be able to tell?

Well let's dive in and find out. When you get the eggs themselves out of the packaging you'll clearly see that there is some nice speckling design work on the outside of each shell. They look like tiny robin's eggs. They come in four pastel colors: Blue, Pink, Yellow, and White. For the record, these colors all taste the same. But they certainly are decorative.

Biting into the egg you'll find exactly as promised a crispy, candy shell covering an egg full of milk chocolate. The shell must've been created around the chocolate because there is no space between the solid milk chocolate egg, and its shell. The egg tastes pretty good overall, the chocolate seems mid range quality wise, and the candy coating is something that you'll have to actually chomp through since it shatters like an actual egg shell might and you don't want to get poked by sharp shell corners. But the overall impression is a pretty good one. The shell has a nice crunch, and the milk chocolate really is a good solid size. So for me at least a very few of these would be enough to satisfy my chocolate egg craving (yes I have those kind of cravings). But this is definitely a case of good, not great.

The question of does it hold up to what I remember as a kid? Well, that's a bit more convoluted, and honestly I don't know if this is the same chocolate I would have had inside my mini-eggs as a child. I don't really think it's as delicious as I remember though. Whether that because the chocolate may be of a different quality than it used to be, or because I'm not six waking up excitedly to find a chocolate bunny and basketful of eggs on the foot of my bed though is a question I don't think I can answer.

For the here and now though, this is a treat I enjoy, but not something I think I'd seek out.

Egg-cellent!

Have you ever really stopped to look at how many chocolate and candy eggs there are at Easter!?

It's insane!

The original and still the best!

Russell Stover always has a very strong showing for the seasonal stuff!

These we're always some of my favorites at Easter :)

I'm sorry, but this just looks like a Powerbar to me. Horrible packaging...

Just like E.T. I've always like Reeses Pieces.

Definitely some different packaging here.

I do like Almonds...

That is too much gum!

Lots of Wonka goodness in there...

Aren't Tootsie pops ALWAYS egg shaped?!

The packaging winner!

let me know if you've found some I missed, I'm sure there are more out there...

Also, whats your favorite?
