Some Super Ads

With the Superbowl airing this past weekend there are always a few fun candy ads to check out. Although I know it seems like car and cola companies spend the most on advertising dollars, pretty much any ad that airs alongside the Superbowl is worth checking out. I mean, if you like advertising :)

Here are a few of the more snack oriented ads to air this Sunday.

Of course M&Ms had a spot. They usually opt for something, even going so far as to debut their Brown M&M mascot at the Superbowl 2 years ago.I like this ad overall. Its pretty funny. Maybe not as funny as some from years past, but its definitely cute.

Doritos always goes big, and this year they had a contest over at https://www.facebook.com/DoritosUSA where if I understand it correctly, people submitted their own homemade ads for a chance at fame, fortune, and an opportunity to work with Michale Bay on... something (ok, so I'm not totally versed in all the details, but here are the two top ads from that contest.

That's pretty fun stuff, although Doritos ads all wear on me after a while... its like drinking too much Mountain Dew or something. It just all blends together somehow into an "extreme" sensory overload.

Pepsi, Coke, and a company called Sodastream all had good showings on the beverage front. But that was to be expected.

One of the most unexpected winners of Sunday nights ad war was actually Oreo though. Yes they had a commercial, check:

More significantly though they had a party to watch the ad air, with both the marketing team behind the ad, and Oreo executives in attendance. Apparently during the 30 minute power outage the Oreo Twitter team took action and hastily came up with this fun ad. They became a trending topic on twitter and scored a great win for cookie fans everywhere. Check out their ad by clicking here. Yes you can still dunk in the dark!

Overall I'd say the ads we're not as great in years past, but I still enjoyed them. Let me know fi you had a favorite, or if you prefer to just to ignore all the hullabaloo. If you want to see more, here's a link to a YT page of all the ads. Enjoy.

The Many Faces of Oreo

If you'll recall my recent post on some of my favorite cookies you'll remember that I am indeed a fan of Oreo. I mean how can you not like them?! They're nearly perfect in every way. With chocolaty, crunchy cookie on the outside and creamy frosting inside. Where else can a kid get that much frosting? I mean its not like mom is going to let you eat cake everyday!

But Oreos are SO much more than just the old black and whites nowadays. This is a massive brand for Nabisco and it shows through the plethora of products you can find on shelves with the Oreo logo. Aside from the classic that you can see above, for your indulgence I've gathered here a few others that I've come across.

Almost as classic as the original, Double Stuff came around at a time before the world even knew about Super Sizing everything. AMAZING.

Of course these days here's what you're more likely to find...

For the non-chocolate fans out there.

Yes they come in Double Stuff too!

A bit on the newer side, these Cakesters seem to be a hit nowadays.

A few other nice options on these Cakesters. I'd like to try the chocolate ones.

I know it says Limited Edition, but I've been seeing these Birthday Cake Oreos around for a long time now. They are great if you haven't had the chance yet, definitely pick some up.

A new addition for the more health conscious.

Here's a favorite from vending machines everywhere.

Another great idea from Oreo.

For the more ambitious out there, these cake baking items will require a little (very little) work, but are totally worth the effort.

Oh so good! There's always room for Oreo Jell-O.

But you say you want ice cream. Oreo's got you covered there too!

So much Oreo goodness here its hard to know where to start... But I suppose I know where to end. For Christmas Oreo has a few special editions that you should definitely check out while you can.

I know there are more Oreo products out there, if you see some please let me know in the comments.  Until we meet again, why not have an Oreo?

My Favorite Cookies

Why on earth don't we talk more about cookies here?!

I'm going to change that starting right now. Sure its technically not the candy aisle, but for a few posts I hope you'll indulge me. Now that I'm back living in Canada I've got a lot of old favorites to check in with again. I've already talked about my love for Viva Puffs, but here are a few other particular favorites.

I'll have more to say on The Decadent chocolate chip cookies soon, but these are not only a Canadian institution, they actually shook up the entire cookie market. For now, lets just leave it with the fact that these are easily the best mass produced commercially available Chocolate Chip Cookies on the market. They are awesome!

It's a classic for a reason. The Original Oreos are just amazing. there are so many good things to say about these. But as the picture says, eating them with milk is one of the best. Everything about an Oero works. Its just delicious all over.

I love Viva Puffs. I know most of you probably haven't had them, but this is easily my most favorite thing in the world containing marshmallow. Yes even more than smores, yes even more than rice crispy squares; Viva Puffs are that good. And as a bonus, they are not only delicious but they are so much fun to eat! There's a lot of layers to a Viva Puff, and its all good.

Man Fudgee-O... I wish I could've eaten these more often as a child. For some reason my parents never seemed to want to get them. Wow these are great though. You want chocolatey goodness? this is the place. Hands down just the best chocolate cookie out there.

Wagon Wheels aren't something to eat everyday. In fact I'd suggest even if you love them to keep it to only special occasions. Almost a desert rather than a cookie snack, wagon wheels live in my mind somewhere around the same place a cookie ice cream sandwich does. They are fantastic, but I think I might like them a little bit less if I could have them all the time.

As a child Peak Freans Fruit Creme biscuits held the spot as my favorite cookie for a very long time. The cream is much softer than an Oeros frosting like substance. This i the kind of cream that will melt in your mouth. The cookie is also something that will eventually melt away. Then all you're left with is the amazing center of gummy jam with sugar coating it. These are practically perfect in every way.

The great thing about Fig Newtons, is that they're practically not even a cookie. I mean I actually knew kids whose moms would give them these to eat as a healthy snack! They're deceptive for sure. Not as sweet as a regular cookie, but I have to say I love how Fig Newtons crumble away in your mouth, and the figs are absolutely great. Getting a fig newton is something a lot of kids won't appreciate; but for those of us who like them it feels like we've just gotten away with a huge coup.

Finally Chips Ahoy! chewy. Now I absolutely never had these at my house as a child. I'm not sure if maybe they weren't available back then in Canada or what. But... that doesn't make sense. They must've been around. I definitely had them when I could, it was just very rare. Whenever I did get them though I was in heaven. I think regular Chips Ahoy! are fine and all, but the Chewy variety is just SO good. As an adult they taste a little too processed, but as a kid these were that bomb. If only I could find them :)

Well, that about wraps it up for me on the cookie front. I'm sure there's a few I'm forgetting, but there's a decent selection. Let me know what your favorite cookies are in the comments.
And now, I'm going to eat a cookie, this post has made me very hungry.
