Doughy Goodness

Not since a certain shapely dough boy first giggled his way into our hearts has the deliciousness of uncooked cookie dough been as celebrated as much as it is here. Why? Because Taste of Nature has a mainline to that nostalgic goodness baked (or unbaked I should say) into every bite of their Cookie Dough line of candies.

For your consideration, here are 4 of those Cookie Dough Bites up for review. Enjoy, and may your dreams be filled with doughy goodness.

Pretty good stuff overall; and definitely an original in the market.

Aisle Walk Mish Mash

I've got a few random things I wanted to post today. New and interesting always catches my eye and there has been no exception to that since I've been back in Canada. To start there are a few Limited Time items in the aisle... I suppose they're her just for the holidays, so check them out quickly if you're interested.

Yes that is in fact Cinnabon bread! Seems like a great idea, although personally I never go to Cinnabon I know there are a lot of people out there addicted to it so this is probably a win for them. They should sell Cinnabon branded frosting spread as a side for that bread.

This product has me concerned. I feel like I want it to be great. I mean Ritz are great, and fudge is great... so what could possibly go wrong? I suspect everything.

And as expected Little Debbie has gotten into the holiday spirit too with these Christmas Snack Cakes. I wonder if these have really been around as long as the dated graphics imply. That seems to be the Little Debbie motif for everything even if its brand new. I will say though that I like the back of the box since it has cut-out gift tags on it. Kinda weird, but maybe works if you're planning on giving a Little Debbie snack cake for Christmas...

Now here we have a bit of an odd, not overly seasonal special edition. You remember what the Aero bar is supposed to look like right? Well if not click here to check out my review from about a month ago. Why the bubbles need to be actual bubbles I'm not sure... Maybe it saves on chocolate overall. I don't think I'm a fan though.

Finally there's this:

That is a whole display case full of Jelly Belly scented air fresheners! Seriously, that's pretty awesome. I totally want my car smelling like Buttered Popcorn!

Viva Forever!

One of the first delicacies I had to search out upon returning to Canada was the classic puffed marshmallow and chocolate cookie, Viva Puffs.

If you're not familiar with these cookies you are sorely missing out. These are the jelly doughnut of cookies. Not something you're always looking for but man, when it comes along you can't help yourself... These cookies are available in Canada and some parts of the US. They come in Fudge, Raspberry, Strawberry, Caramel, and Fieldberry flavors. Get your hands on them if you possibly can.

Zero - video review

Today we've got another great review for you. Its time to look at the totally unique Zero candy bar!

Thanks for checking out the video. If you want more please have a look through the written review, or all the reviews on the Review Page.

Zero review

Today we've got a pretty unique review for you, its time to look at Hershey's Zero candy bar!

The Zero bar is pretty astounding right off the bat. I mean the wrapper makes it look like a crossbreed between a York Peppermint Pattie, and a tube of toothpaste, but what grabbed me most was the text. "Caramel, Peanut, and Almond nougat covered in White Fudge" ?!?!?!!? whoa! that's crazy talk. Is this a candy bar or some kind of exotic delicacy. I mean by all rights it shouldn't sound so peculiar, all of those ingredients are common enough, but to see them listed in a candy bar is... just totally unheard of. Seriously, there is not a single mention of chocolate here! I am more than a little excited to get into this bar.

As for the wrapper, its a bit silly, but hey it works, it's different, if a bit antiseptic. At least it plays into the "cool-ness" of a white bar. Makes me think of alpine skiing or something similarly cold.

So yes, unfortunately my particular bar got a bit crushed. I'm sure its not supposed to be all cracked and leaking caramel. That's just one of the hazards of eating a lot of candy bars... sometimes there are casualties. But looking on the bright side, I'm not going to hold it against the bar, and I'm even more fascinated to eat this thing now. Look at how much caramel is inside it!

Hopefully my bites wont be dry and drained of all the caramel...

Ok, so biting into the bar is... a very different experience. I guess my mouth is just so trained on milk chocolate bars after doing so many review that I'm not used to anything different, but even knowing what this bar is all about going in, I'm still caught off guard. The Zero bar's white fudge coating of course behaves totally differently than a chocolate coating would. Its got a bit more heft, a bit more chalkiness, and it break differently than chocolate. It'd definitely fudgy as well. A good blast of that is the first sensation when biting into the bar, followed by a complex mixture of a unique nougat texture as well. Seriously everything about this bar is just different. The nougat is totally strange as well. Its got the consistency of... homeground smooth peanut butter. Its a bit grainy. Where I was expecting chunks of peanut and almond, I'm met with whats closer to mixed nut paste, only with the stickiness you'd only find in a caramel infused nougat. This is very weird. Not bad, not great, just totally different.

I like this bar, its got real guts for trying something totally off the wall. I don't think its great, but maybe that's just my taste. Everything about it is unique, and that goes a long ways in my book. I don't think I'd seek a Zero bar out, but its definitely something I'm glad I tried.
